About 5×5 Night
Five Votes, Five Ideas, Five Minutes, Five Judges, Five Thousand Dollars
That’s a lot of 5, but we simply call it 5×5
There is no restriction on the type of idea that a creator can submit, but it is important to remember that it is all about advancing an idea. The community votes on their favorite ideas, which will then be presented at the event. The selected creators will present a 5-minute pitch explaining how they plan to use the $5,000 winnings to advance their idea and will meet people who can help.
Having an idea is just the beginning—it’s up to you to drive it into existence, so be clear about what it takes to move forward with that next $5,000 step.
After all five presentations are complete, we’ll move into the reception where you’ll discover the winner, enjoy a beer and discuss the ideas presented. This part of the event is what makes it all worthwhile. We hope you’ll join us!
When
5×5 Night takes place once a month. Doors open at 5:00PM. Presentations start at 5:30PM. All votes and applications are due one week prior to the event.
Where
5×5 Night typically happens at Start Garden, but for a few months out of the year, we hit the road and host at partner organization venues spanning the West Michigan region. After the presentations are complete, drinks, socializing and announcing the night’s winner happen at the venue. The bar opens at 5:00pm. Presentations begin at 5:30pm.
Who
Any individual. Any idea. Five applicants are chosen to present each month based on popular vote. You must be at least 18 years old and an individual (not an organization).
Voters
Any individual from the community.
Judges
Judges are members of 5×5 Night and a represenation of the region’s small business, enterprise, non-profit, civic leadership and creatives. Reach out to learn about becoming a member and judging at the events. Judges are announced each month, a week before voting ends.
Why
An idea is a seed. Sharing it is putting it in the ground. Hiding it is putting it in a drawer.
